VP, Market Development - UPMC Enterprises


As a business development leader joining our Digital Solutions team, you'll be supporting the acceleration and commercialization of internally incubated products and early-stage portfolio companies. In this role, you'll collaborate internally with product marketing teams to develop and execute go-to-market strategies and hit key sales growth goals. Further, you'll engage strategically with external payers and providers to validate customer needs and move relevant opportunities through commercial engagement stages, including lead generation, contracting, pilot, and retention.


  • Cross-functional Collaboration:
    • Partner with product teams to align customer buying drivers and product positioning
    • Develop processes to track and report on commercial pipeline metrics
    • Provide regular communications to senior management on business development strategy and results
    • Coordinate across teams at UPMC and UPMC Enterprises to ensure coordinated outreach with external health systems and payers
  • Relationship Building & Pipeline Development:
    • Build and cultivate strategic external relationships across a matrix of roles and areas of expertise, including C-suite, within payer and provider systems
    • Understand market trends to position opportunities, grow pipelines, and develop new partnerships
    • Manage effective communication of product value propositions, features and partnership expectations with potential customers
  • Sales & Customer Success:
    • Craft and execute growth and go-to-market strategies to accelerate commercialization of incubated products/portfolio companies
    • End-to-end business development execution with primary focus on acquiring leads and closing enterprise contracts
    • Manage success of existing partnerships to drive high rates of customer retention Identify opportunities for cross-selling and collaboration across incubated products and portfolio companies


  • 10+ years of enterprise healthcare business development, sales leadership, go-to-market, or client relationships management experience
  • Experience closing contracts and managing ongoing relationships with health system or health plan customers
  • Demonstrated ability to sell into complex, matrix org structures and successful implementation of go-to-market plans
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills and ability to develop strong working relationships
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills, including ability to tailor messaging across audiences
  • Motivated by early-stage growth environment and ability to scale mission-driven products and services Comfortable with ambiguity
