Business Analyst, ENT


Job Purpose

The Business Analyst at UPMC Enterprises supports Product Managers in “acceleration.”
Analysts use their keen, pragmatic skills to assess industries, businesses, and products. They are responsible for highlighting gaps and opportunities that support company-building and product roadmap activities from early-stage discovery through entry to market.


• Works with users, business, market, and technical staff to identify problems and propose solutions
• Conducts market and business analyses, including quantitative and qualitative data analysis (financial, operational, technical)
• Works collaboratively with all reporting partners (usage data, clinical data, technical data, operational data) to understand and characterize problem spaces
• Assesses the operational and functional requirements of an organization, determines “market fit” of potential solutions within UPMC
• Continuously improves business intelligence
• Create, maintain, and continuously improve ability to report on performance metrics for the organization – understanding UPMC's core strengths, gaps and programs
• Supports Product Management in primary and secondary market research – including competitive analysis, etc.
• Performs initial high-level primary and secondary market research to drive problem-scoping, problem definition, problem prioritization within a defined focus area
• Identifies and builds relationships with clinical / administrative champions in UPMC and Health Plan, within a specific product area
• Builds out deep understanding of our capabilities, resources, assets and our gaps, requirements to succeed in product development in specific product areas
• Drives continued business intelligence to understand market forces, size of opportunity, addressable market, profit drivers, differentiators needed to create winning solutions
• Performs all above in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors
• Performs special projects and other duties as assigned


• B.S. degree in quantitative field of study with a minimum of 1-2 years relevant experience in business development, strategy, marketing or finance
• MS or PhD preferred
• Familiarity with healthcare operations, or the ability to quickly learn
• Understanding of health care IT
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills
• Demonstrated organizational and analytical skills with strong technical abilities
• Product management/design experience
