Purpose:

At UPMC Enterprises, we help create health care innovations that will impact the lives of patients in meaningful, lasting ways. The MyUPMC team strives to use technology to empower consumers and enhance the digital relationship between a patient and his/her care team. Our team is reinventing the MyUPMC patient portal web and mobile experiences to achieve these goals and to help patients to more easily manage care for themselves and their loved ones.


Our Product Managers bridge cross-functional disciplines, balancing business, technical and design constraints to bring products to market that will define the future of health care. Product Managers must feel comfortable working in a dynamic, sometimes ambiguous environment. They must leverage deep commercial expertise and critical thinking skills to distill the complexity inherent to health care's most confounding problems. They must also thoughtfully translate problems into solutions, that can take shape as disruptive businesses and ultimately, actionable product roadmaps. Product Managers move quickly and with confidence, always with an eye on the future. They must inspire teams to nurture creativity, and marry risk with reward, recognizing that they will be held accountable for the analysis, positioning, packaging and promotion of new companies.


Responsibilities


We’re looking for a Product Manager that is one part designer and one part product strategist to help create new product features that are both delightful and functional for our users. This individual will develop the roadmap for our web and mobile platforms, working with internal and external teams to synthesize key inputs from product and design research into a cohesive product strategy. The successful candidate will be comfortable translating ambiguity into clarity, balancing priorities across multiple areas of the product, and producing crisp deliverables.


This role will partner with engineering and marketing teams to ensure high quality execution of the detailed components of various features on the product roadmap. The ideal candidate is solution-oriented and collaborative in nature.

  • Usually manages one product at a time
    • Leads product strategy development and vision-setting, supported by internal and external analysis

    • Works closely and collaboratively with design and product teams from partner organizations

    • Manages prioritization and trade-offs among customer experience, performance, and operational support load

    • Identifies meaningful components of competitive landscape analysis to inform product decisions

    • Proactively identifies and resolves strategic issues that may impair the team’s ability to meet strategic, financial, and technical goals

    • Leads the definition, design and construction of products that delight consumers and compel them to engage despite an abundance of alternatives and distractions

    • Guides products through the complete product roadmap from concept to launch

    • Looks for innovative product solutions and opportunities based on strong marketplace data analysis

    • Drives dialogue with engineering teams and program management from multiple products to deliver integrated services

    • Creates, creative, high quality documentation based on team strategy and vision, including roadmap, technical due diligence, and market analysis

    • Develops crisp, detailed business requirements and user stories that can be used to create product specifications and architecture for each product and application


    • Works with interdisciplinary teams and across functional departments, including engineering, design, marketing and finance teams – to carry out strategic plan for assigned product(s) or domain(s)

    • Produces deliverables that tell concise business stories – using data-driven, evidence-based, and human-centered arguments

    • Builds buy-in for the product or company from both external and internal stakeholders

    • Serves as point-person between stakeholders and organizations, and liaison between Enterprises and external entities

    • Engages with Subject Matter Experts for in-depth evaluation (clinical, scientific, business, design, etc.)

    • Presents investment and product development recommendations to executive leadership

    • Communicates activities, statuses, issues, and accomplishments to management and partners as needed

    • Performs special projects and other duties as assigned

    • Performs all above in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors

 

 

Qualifications

-Bachelors Degree

-Advanced degree, MBA, MS or PhD preferred

-5+ years professional experience, direct management experience

-Excellent written and oral communication skills

-Demonstrates fluency with agile/lean methods

-Commercial software expertise, developing consumer-facing web products and mobile products in technologies

-Understanding of health care IT industry

-Excellent organizational and analytical skills with strong technical abilities

-Shows working knowledge across multiple functional areas such as product management, engineering, design, and market research but also exhibits depth in a relevant discipline. E.g., T-shaped individuals
