Job Description/Summary/Objectives:

UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside seeks a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to build novel predictive machine learning models from structured, imaging and time series healthcare data, including reinforcement learning models for treatment in the ICU and imaging algorithms for optimized timing of referral from X-Ray to CT. Perform data extraction, large-scale data transformation and machine learning model development in a medical environment. Develop long-term machine learning platforms and data systems. Use machine learning methods and statistical analysis methods to analyze user log data and demographic data, generate and test hypotheses, and interpret and understand users’ behaviors. Design, test and maintain Natural Language Processing (NLP) applications using the latest in testing methodologies. Develop machine learning and NLP methods for biomedical dataset retrieval and analysis. Implement existing statistical language models for specific NLP use cases. Work with an existing, experienced inter-disciplinary healthcare NLP team to define and deliver new products.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications and Licensure/Certification:

- Master’s degree or equivalent in Biomedical Informatics, Computational Biology, Information Systems Management or a related field
-Six (6) months of machine learning, data science, natural language processing or related research experience;
-using at least one of the following statistical modeling tools: R, Matlab, Weka;
-programming with python or R;
-developing machine learning and natural language processing methods;
-working with and manipulating datasets; and
-building proof of concept applications.
