The ITTC Business Analytics Manager at UPMC Enterprises will be a key member of the growing Immune Transplant and Therapy Center (ITTC) team.


The ITTC brings together the brightest scientific and business minds in immunotherapy to collaborate, share ideas, and drive the development of novel groundbreaking therapies in the areas of organ transplantation, cancer, aging, and chronic disease.


The ITTC Business Analytics Manager will use her/his considerable industry experience to actively contribute to ITTC market research and analytics efforts while providing project management oversight, thought leadership and analytical guidance to the Senior Business Analysts and other existing ITTC and non-ITTC research staff.

  • Acts as a thought leader and critical business thinker within ITTC and UPMC Enterprises
  • Collaborates with ITTC leadership to refine ITTC's scientific and investment strategy
  • Continues to push the evolution of ITTC's team structure and business processes to make optimal use of team resources with the goal of increasing the system-wide impact of ITTC 
  • Seeks opportunities to implement process improvements that optimize team operations  
  • Helps build a collaborative team culture and ensures knowledge sharing
  • Directs team output and deliverables as needed for presentation to team and leadership  
  • Supports domain talent recruitment and staff professional development
  • Contributes to establishing and maintaining good working relationships with ITTC's scientific and business partners at UPMC Enterprises, UPMC and Pitt
  • Demonstrates flexibility to support ad hoc company and industry analyses and quarterly/annual performance reporting
  • Helps the ITTC team build a deep understanding of our capabilities, resources, assets and our gaps, requirements to succeed in product development in specific product areas
  • Independently leads critical aspects of ITTC project management and execution  
  • Leads multi-functional project teams conducting staged assessments of ITTC Pipeline opportunities  
  • Early assessment and triage of potential investment opportunities for strategic fit and commercial attractiveness 
  • Detailed scientific, commercial, financial, regulatory and legal due diligence of priority opportunities 
  • Development of investment cases and detailed business plans 
  • Financial forecasting, valuation and transaction support  
  • Develops project scope and milestones in collaboration with ITTC leadership
  • As needed, engages key internal ITTC stakeholders at UPMC Enterprises, UPMC and Pitt for input 
  • Interfaces with external stakeholders on critical project activities and deliverables  
  • Management teams of potential start-ups and portfolio companies; Co-investors, Industry partners and Third party vendors (e.g., market research, legal, consulting, etc.) 
  • Tracks project status and manages ITTC Pipeline documentation
  • Leads continued market and business intelligence to understand market forces, size of opportunity, addressable market, profit drivers, differentiators needed to create winning solutions
  • Performs all above in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors
  • Proactively leads efforts to systematically monitor the broader life science industry landscape for transformational, ITTC-relevant investment and partnering opportunities (both internal and external)
  • Provides day to day leadership, mentorship and guidance to a cross-functional team of research associates and analysts, driving a culture to create action and inspire innovation.
  • Reports on progress and success of pipeline and project portfolio for areas of responsibility


  • 5+ years of relevant professional experience in the life science or healthcare industry BA and/or MA in a scientific discipline 
  • Preferably in immunology, physiology, pharmacology, biomedical engineering, molecular biology MBA or equivalent on the job business analytics training (e.g. 3+ years in investment banking, consulting or venture capital) required MD, PhD or combined degree desirable 
  • The ideal candidate has relevant scientific and/or business experience exploring problems in any or all the following areas: Cancer immunotherapy, T-Cell biology, Transplantation Autoimmune and inflammation Aging and chronic diseases 
  • The successful candidate should have the demonstrated ability to independently tackle complex scientific and business problem  
  • We are looking for candidates with a successful track record of working in and managing small cross-functional teams, having demonstrated the capacity to effectively manage upward and downward to achieve critical project goals  
  • Candidates are expected to have a comprehensive business analysis toolkit honed in relevant life science or healthcare industry roles, e.g., commercial or product planning, business development, investing, etc. Scientific and technical assessment of business opportunities 
  • Commercial assessment of business opportunities 
  • Primary and secondary market research 
  • Competitive landscape assessments 
  • Market or product-level revenue forecasting or assessment of commercial opportunities 
  • Financial valuation and high level operational modeling 
  • Experience with regulatory and legal diligence is a bonus 
  • The successful candidate should be a self-starter, highly motivated and willing to go the extra mile to support the vision of enabling Life Changing Medicine 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills required 
  • Flexibility for limited travel as needed
