Pre-Clinical Program Coordinator-Therapeutic Tumor Microenvironment Strategies, NewCo2

Provides day-to-day operational leadership and staff oversight for Therapeutic Tumor Microenvironment Strategies NewCo2, a UPMC Enterprises funded biotech startup.

Responsibilities:
  • Coordinates the development of the required lab infrastructure to perform sample preparation processes and assays
  • Determines associated program objectives, milestones and timelines and ensures strict adherence to these timelines
  • Directs and supervises the lab
  • Drives hiring of a team of technicians performing lab work/discovery research
  • Ensures compliance with all relevant regulatory standards (e.g. HIPPA, GLP/GMP)
  • Implements state-of-the art sample management and storage system
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours as necessary, and work beyond 40hrs is likely to be required
  • Oversees sample collection, processing and analysis
  • Responsible for financial planning and budgeting of lab operations
  • Runs the lab to meet operational and regulatory requirements associated with high-throughput processing of clinical samples
  • Setup of a laboratory information system (LIMS)
  • Supports the scientific and business leadership of TTMS in exploring and implementing strategic business models, including identification of commercial IP
  • Works with the scientific founders to determine specific project priorities to investigate the most promising targets within the tumor microenvironment for the development of therapeutics

Qualifications

·       PhD in Immunology, 5+ yrs of postdoctoral experience with increasing responsibility

·       Relevant research and discovery experience in academia or industry across key areas of immunology, supported by a strong resume and publication record, including but not limited to:

o   a. T-cell biology

o   b. Cell and/or molecular immunology

o   c. Cancer immunotherapy

o   d. Computational biology

o   e. Cancer/immune metabolic pathways

o   f. Therapeutic target discovery and validation

·       The ideal candidate would have extensive experience with the following techniques:

o   a. T-cell focused cellular and molecular immunology (e.g. flow cytometry, TCR sequencing)

o   b. Cancer immunology, including in-vitro, in-vivo (e.g., mouse models of cancer) and clinical models (e.g. analysis of human cancer samples)

o   c. Next generation sequencing (incl. WGS/WES and RNAseq, single cell analysis)

o   d. High throughput T-cell response assays

o   e. Analysis of metabolic cellular pathways (e.g. metabolic substrate analysis)

·       Experience setting up a discovery laboratory and operating sample management, storage solutions, and LIMS Experience in running a cutting edge, multidisciplinary research program or clinical laboratory

·       Experience in identifying and developing clinically actionable biomarkers, predictors and associated assays

·       The ideal candidate is product and goal oriented, focused on a career in biotech

·       They are highly efficient and organized, and have a demonstrated ability to adhere to and follow defined timelines, milestone, and objectives

·       The ideal candidate has demonstrated success in highly dynamic research and/or biotech settings

The ideal candidate can deal with uncertainty and solve problems creatively with solid judgement
