Technical Program Manager

Purpose:
At UPMC Enterprises, the Program Manager is responsible for developing, defining, and executing project plans, schedules, budgets, and deliverables. The primary role of this position is to work with the management team, software engineers, design team, analysts, quality assurance, and third party partners to define and deliver software products in health care IT. Activities include collaborating and coordinating the efforts of software development and delivery, collecting requirements, design work, creating documentation, managing alpha and beta rollouts, operational readiness and deploying a working system. The Program Manager will also manage resourcing, keeping tabs on in-flight projects, and ensuring players are distributed appropriately to meet the collective needs of the domain.

Responsibilities:

  • Communicate activities, statuses, accomplishments
  • Create and develop a team environment, including building collaborative relationships, training peers to perform at maximum efficiency and for cross-functional coalitions to ensure knowledge is shared across teams
  • Develop and maintain detailed project plans for enterprise initiatives Schedule and lead project status meetings with the team members and development partners to assess progress and plan activities aimed at keeping the project on-schedule
  • Develops key metrics and KPIs to measure overall performance
  • Handles stakeholder management for all internal and external stakeholders
  • Interface with peers throughout UPMC to develop a strong working relationship between all groups within UPMC and the UPMC Enterprises. Seek opportunity to provide assistance and wherever possible thereby increasing overall service and reducing cost through elimination of duplicate/redundant efforts
  • Lead cross-functional teams, will have matrix reports of engineers, designers, product analysts, quality analysts and others as needed
  • Maintain current industry knowledge and trends, attending educational events and participates in committee work as appropriate
  • Manage and mitigate risks. Establish escalation processes and ensure timely reporting and resolution of issues. Inform core team, stakeholders, and senior management of major issues that will impact project success. Work with senior management to resolve major issues that cannot be solved by the project team alone
  • Manage multiple projects and timelines within one or more industry domains
  • Participate in defining and implementing the process roadmap and project management best practices to boost productivity, quality and efficiency
  • Responsible for developing, defining, monitoring, executing, and adhering to project plans, schedules, budgets, and deliverables. Drive the successful estimation, planning, and execution of high quality software product development projects on budget and on time
  • Work with Development and Product Management Teams on a daily basis providing status updates, recommendations for improvements, and other inputs to provide a world class engineering development organization

Qualifications

Bachelors degree in business administration or related field MS or PhD preferred PMP certification preferred 5+ years of experience in managing multiple concurrent software development projects, projects of a large scale and a high level of complexity. Commercial software experience preferred Demonstrated management, problem solving, organizational, negotiation and communication skills (oral and written) Possess a deep knowledge of software development processes, lifecycles, and best practices Demonstrated ability to motivate and manage teams to meet aggressive deadlines Demonstrated expertise in Project and Program Management, including project planning, driving operating and communication mechanisms High level of comfort presenting information to C-level executive management teams Demonstrated experience in Project Portfolio Management coordinating and delivering complex multi-site projects Demonstrated experience managing matrix reports, cross-functional teams including team members from multiple business units and different operational departments Proven ability to make and meet commitments under pressure The successful candidate will be a self-motivated independent thinker with high energy and drive, and demonstrated leadership, team-building, influencing, and communication skills
